UMAMYA SUSHI - PANTAI INDAH KAPUK

The trend of Japanese culinary ventures have been rapidly growing over the past years and there are countless numbers of restaurants serving Japanese cuisines all around the city of Jakarta. When it comes to culinary, Pantai Indah Kapuk is the new "utopia" in North Jakarta with an impressive growth rate, especially in restaurants and dining.

I recently got to visit UMAMYA Sushi, a Japanese restaurant that is considerably new since it has only been opening its door since August 2018. The restaurant itself is located in one of the most strategic spots in Pantai Indah Kapuk: Ruko Crown Golf; where you can see numerous restaurants along the street with various kinds of cuisines served inside every different door and building. The restaurant itself specializes in cuisines that are actually fusion between Japanese and French, that is why you will find French character in the ingredients used (for example: Hollandaise Sauce)

I came during daytime and they have two opening hours: 11 AM to 2.30 PM for lunch and 5.30 PM to 10 PM for dinner. Since I arrived shortly before noon, the restaurant was not really occupied as it was just opened for the day. The restaurant occupies two floors of the building. On the first floor, most of the tables are arranged in a simple wooden setting with a classic Japanese accent. The main kitchen and sushi bar is visible from the seating on the first floor and here, they prepare everything freshly and finely from scratch. The guests can also see the ingredients displayed, like the fresh cuts of sashimi and raw fish.

Everything was just simple yet fine of their interior (without being way too flashy, so do not expect this place to be instagrammable or anything). When I visited, the whole restaurant was ready for Christmas; with little decoration elements on the walls and holiday-themed music playing in the background.

The setting of the second floor is more laid-back and relaxed.
Being more spacious with the floor seating and the iconic swing seats
by their window - Perfect during the daytime!

Salmon Carpaccio
Thin slices of salmon, scallions, garlic, ponzu and tobiko

Tuna Tartare
Tuna, smelt roe, shoyu, sesame oil, scallions, ground peanut, onion, cut seaweed and avocado

This one was impressively really fresh! They really
prepared everything finely, may it be raw or cooked.

Maguro Age Maki
Fried roll, tuna marinated with cream cheese, topped with spicy mayo and scallions

They lit the salt with fire as the garnish to give
a little amusement for the serving.

Karai Age Kani Sake Maki
Fried roll, spicy salmon, cream cheese, crab stick and spicy mayo

I really liked this one. The way they fried the rolls
while still preserving the firmness without being overly crispy
is impressive!

Karai Sake Maki
Spicy salmon, cucumber, crunchy, fresh salmon, avocado and spicy mayo

The glass in the background contains dry ice which will fill up the dish
and wooden bridge with white smoke when it is served.
Another attraction!

Tantan Yaki Udon
Sautéed Japanese recipe of spicy salmon over stir fried udon

This one is new to their menu. The texture of the
udon was fine, yet the broccoli needed to be boiled more to
achieve better texture.

Baked Ebi Katsu
Shrimp katsu; baked with special mayo, tobiko, scallions and unagi sauce

Takana Chahan Wagyu
Pickled mustard fried rice with wagyu (add-on)

They did not use salt at all, they used pickle and mustard instead to
give flavor to the fried rice and their wagyu was champ!
Really love the black pepper crust on the sides.

Sashimi Platter
Hirame (Fluke), Hamachi (Yellow Tail), Ikura (Salmon Roe), Ika (Squid), Uni (Sea Urchin)

This one was the highlight on the table. Served with the majestic dry ice smokes.
Everything was REALLY FRESH for real! I was really grateful to find Uni and they
prepared it really nicely. Also that they have Hirame in their selection (which is considered
to be pretty rare in restaurants). Their sashimi proves that they sustain a wonderful
quality starting from the ingredients; from scratch.

My lunch experience at UMAMYA Sushi instantly made it to the list of ONE OF THE BEST MEALS IN 2018! Everything was up and beyond my expectation. This restaurant is really amazing and shall not be under-estimated. Though the place and ambience might not be the fanciest, yet trust me, everything was really nice because they prepare everything finely from the ingredients. I believe that this restaurant will go big and if you are looking for a nice Japanese meal, this one definitely becomes my recommendation to go to! The service was also nice and the staffs were really helpful. Do not hesitate to ask anything regarding the menu and serving.

I myself will definitely be coming back to try more and more of their wonderful creations and they are going to launch even more of the serious selections and additions to their menu in the future! About the pricing, in conjunction to the fact that they serve amazing dishes and the restaurant is located in a prestigious area, their pricing is considered to be affordable! They also have friendly promotions including discounts (more discount if you bring more people to dine along with) and even partnerships with various cashless transaction (e-wallet) provider.

Wishing all the very best for UMAMYA Sushi! Looking forward for this venture to go big and hopefully expand to other areas in Jakarta. Recommended!
