TOM SUSHI - MALL OF INDONESIA
One of my resolutions for this new year is to have better meals! I have been really into Japanese food for over the past few months and I have been in the hunt for some great sushi. I have always known about Tom Sushi because they have opened two outlets in Jakarta. Saw the one in Grand Indonesia yet their outlet in Mall of Indonesia is grander and it is quite the center of attention of their 1st Floor; strategically placed in the middle, facing elevators to the 2nd Floor which tends to be one of the most crowded spot in Mall of Indonesia.
Tom Sushi is considerably new to the F&B industry and it is not franchised from overseas companies like other similar ventures. The restaurant got famous by the incredible affordable pricing system and I myself rate Tom Sushi as the MOST AFFORDABLE SUSHI RESTAURANT IN JAKARTA at the moment! They have quite a decent range of selections on their menu and everything is classified into three groups of pricing:
- Yellow Plate: 10k
- Red Plate: 15k
- Blue Plate, Black Plate, Special Orders: 20k
As you can see, their pricing is truly affordable. Even the fact that one cup for free flow ocha only costs 3k (cheapest one that I have ever found so far). Some of you might have been skeptical about the flavor and quality since their pricing is really affordable, compared to any other Japanese restaurants in Jakarta. Yet, I have to tell you that they have a good standard in quality and they do not play or mess up with the dishes that they serve!
The restaurant itself accommodates around 60-70 people (by my estimation, I did not precisely count the number of seating) and they have two seating options: tables and by the sushi bar. They have the lengthy running conveyor belt along the sushi bar and table area to serve various selections of sushi. However, not everything gets served through the belt, therefore you need to place your order for some dishes straight to the waiters and waitresses. For example: sashimi, donburi, etc. While for ocha, cups are provided so you just need to request the refill jug. Hot water taps are also available right at the tables if you want to warm yourself up.
I am writing this blog post based on my first visit to Tom Sushi with my family, though I went back for another visit a week after! Without further ado, straight to the foods!

Spicy Ebi Tempura Floss Maki (20k)
This one was just nice and crispy to start the lunch.
Loved how they well-fried the shrimp!
Salmon Mentai Sushi (20k)
Anywhere I go, I can just never resist anything with mentai sauce.
The great thing was that they nicely torched the mentai and the fact that
their salmon was amazing! This one certainly melts in the mouth.
Aburi Salmon Inari Mentai Sushi (15k)
Another salmon mentai, nicely wrapped with a
good serving of inari (tofu skin).
Volcano (15k)
This one was indeed literally a volcano; bursts entirely into
the mouth with a nice bold flavor! This one is best served within
a single intake for the best "eruption".
Maguro Sashimi (20k)
I was really impressed by the fact that they use ingredients
with great quality. For the best way to test is by having their sashimi.
Aburi Salmon Tuna Salad (15k)
This one was my personal favorite! Really generous and everything
collided perfectly. Having great layers of well-prepared ingredients stacked up.
Spot-on their nicely torched tuna and the generous aburi mayo plus cheese and roe on top!
Salmon Tempura Floss Roll (15k)
I noticed that they interestingly use beef floss as the topping
to several items on their menu and it was honestly great!
Chicken Karaage Don (20k)
Growing up, I have always been someone who really likes donburi before
diving into the world of sushi and sashimi. And when it comes to that, chicken karaage
is just a classic and nice option. Surprisingly, the portion was quite generous
and prepared fresh! The chicken was well-coated and nicely fried
without being way too crispy (just the way karaage should be)! The soy
sauce used was in the right amount without overpowering the chicken.
I have visited Tom Sushi two times so far and I even went there on Christmas Eve for a lovely dinner with my family! They really do an amazing job of preserving quality and satisfaction with a super affordable pricing. Will definitely be coming back for more and I personally have a goal to try everything on their menu because it is truly worth-it! You might want to add Tom Sushi to your list if you desire to have a Japanese food feast and satisfy your cravings without literally being broke! Also, I really appreciated how their staffs are keen and responsive (even during busy hours) to assist customers and take personal orders.
Wishing all the very best for Tom Sushi!
