The fine dining scene in Jakarta has been evolving throughout the years as it has reached a broader range of market in the society. Fine dining in town used to be commonly related to five-star hotels and having executives as their guests. Nowadays, fine dining has become an interest for the community and people who are enthusiastic in dining.

I have always loved to explore the world of gourmet and gastronomy. The thing about fine dining that draws my interest is not merely about the luxury and lavishness, yet more to the philosophy, concept and authenticity behind every single element presented by the restaurants and the people behind them. When it comes to fine dining, French cuisine is one of the most dominant in the industry and scene. In this town itself, there are not many French fine dining establishments.

Speaking of French fine dining, AMUZ Gourmet has been renowned as the best in town. Proving its existence and excellence, this restaurant has been consecutively awarded to become one of the best tables in town. Led by Chef Gilles Marx and team, this restaurant is not only known for its elegance, yet also for the serious take in the gastronomical field. Serving authentic Parisian cuisine, complemented by the posh ambiance: with Eiffel Tower-inspired steel structure and romantic scene. 

They are open at 11.30 AM until 2.30 PM for their Lunch service and during those hours, visitors are mostly businessmen and workers from inside the Energy Building where this place is nestled (or outside). When I went there, I could see people hosting business lunches and meetings. After finishing their Lunch service, they reopen for their Dinner service from 6 PM onward. During these hours, the tables are usually more full due to the high demand from various types of guests. People like to visit AMUZ for dinner for occasions like dinner date, anniversary, family dinner or just those who would like to savor fantastic delicacies or celebrate lovely moments. 

For their Lunch service, they provide ala-carte and set menu. While for their Dinner service, they serve a wider range of ala-carte menu, set menu and degustations (usually on weekends or by request). I have seen pictures of their degustations shared on social media, usually when people celebrate special moments with a more interesting range of surprising entries. 

I went in to try their Gourmet Bistro Lunch Set Menu which has options for two/three/four courses. I tried the three-course set menu which consists of Starter, Main Course and Dessert. Just the perfect option to go with if you desire to have a simple and complete meal. Do note that they occasionally change or update the entries on their set menu once in a few months or season.

Here are the pricing for their Gourmet Bistro Lunch Set Menu:
- Two Courses: 250K++ (including freshly baked breads and complimentary coffee/tea)
- Three Courses: 299K++ (including freshly baked breads and complimentary coffee/tea)
- Four Courses: 350K++ (including freshly baked breads and complimentary coffee/tea)


Complimentary Bread and Butter
As commonly served in fine dining restaurants, bread and butter is always complimentary for continental cuisines. I loved their selection of freshly-baked breads which all were still warm. The floury texture was nice.



Amuse Bouche: Cheese Puffs
A nice little treat from the chef: I loved the slight buttery puff with fluffy texture (yet was still slightly crunchy as well). Cheese filling was good and it was also warm.


Escargots à la Bourguignonne
Snails Baked in Their Shell in Fresh Garlic-Herb Butter, on Toasted Walnut Bread

An essential French starter: simple and nicely cooked snails with their fresh garlic-herb butter. Standard portion of 6 snails, finely-cooked and aromatic. Served on their lovely toasted walnut bread: nice texture and crunch; slightly identical to croutons when it met the garlic-herb butter!



Seafood Risotto
Prawn, Snapper, Squid & New Zealand Mussel, on a Yuzu-Scented Risotto

This was a fresh and amazing entrée. An impressive take and well-executed tri-fusion dish which was a nice finding in a French restaurant. Perfect portion and balance between the finely-cooked yuzu-scented fragrant risotto with its slight soft texture along with greens and several seafood assortments on top: fresh prawn, pan-fried snapper, New Zealand mussel and fantastic squid (perfect texture). Not only did it embrace the palates, it was also aromatic. A simple, fine indulgence.



Valrhona Chocolate-Pecan Brownie
Chocolate Mousee & Rhum Raisin Ice Cream

A beautifully-plated dessert with rich chocolate flavor (Valrhona is my favorite chocolate) that matched well with the pecans and rhum raisin ice cream. However, it would be better if the brownie texture was softer and more chewy; it was slightly too crumbly to me. The sweetness was also fine, not being way too over- creating balance between the Valrhona chocolate which tend to be bitter with the other elements to become overall nice and sweet.



The entire dining experience was delightful and fulfilling. Also, I would like to specially give thumbs up for their brilliant service. The server at my table was very keen and attentive, communicative as well: living up to their standard of acknowledged service quality. Definitely an amusing experience that latches to my mind. I would definitely love to come back to try more fantastic dishes, especially their ala-carte menu and degustations.
