SENJU OMAKASE - PLAZA INDONESIA
Senju Omakase has been sustaining an honorable reputation for their stunning range of omakase and premium Japanese cuisines. "Omakase" in Japanese means "I'll leave it up to you." Therefore, the customers essentially entrust the chefs to prepare the best dishes for them. Not only being a restaurant which serves amazing omakase (since there are not many restaurants serving omakase in Jakarta), all their ingredients are freshly flown from Toyusu Fish Market (the successor of Tsukiji - which is the largest fish market in the world)! That certainly means that they serve only the best and freshest sashimi and everything upholds the impressive quality that lives up to the standard of their restaurant.
The interior was fantastic without being too extravagant, just how I think suits the concept of casual dining. The centerpiece of their restaurant is their bar; the place to enjoy their amazing Izakaya-style dining or just having some time over their selections of dishes and drinks. I sat down at a reserved table, near to both their bar and outdoor area (outside the window). I do think that the elements were combined in an exquisite way, using materials like black marbles with white and gold texture and scheme, plus the mandatory element for any Japanese restaurant: wooden materials, in which they designed in various shapes and textures
After speaking with their waiter regarding the choice of menu to be served, I got some time to explore their entire dining area and do the tour on their interior. The place was not actually that big, but everything was just nice in my opinion.
Tea by JING
I am someone who truly enjoys tea and I was delighted to know that their tea selections were by JING; one of the best brands which provide a decent range and amazing quality of tea.
Bara Chirashi (Maguro)
The first dish that was served and it was the highlight of the evening. I had been craving for some sashimi, especially tuna for a couple of months and I was truly joyous to have their Maguro Don served on the table. Having fragrant Japanese rice at the bottom, topped with generous amount of sliced tuna sashimi! Since their tuna was also imported straight from Toyusu Fish Market, it was GLORIOUS. The texture was really nice and delectable. Also, every dish from their Rice selection comes with their house-special Miso Soup on the side - it was legit without being tasteless or overpowering.
With the generous portion, my craving for
sashimi was truly fulfilled to such a pleasure.
Salmon Kabuto Robatayaki
Also adequate to their tuna sashimi which was glorious, their grilled Salmon Head was also fantastic. The whole head consists of a huge amount of both meat and skin. It was heavenly juicy and the natural oil which came from the fish basked the whole dish. It was grilled perfectly, maintaining a tender and juicy texture - impressive.
Not to forget, a slice of lime and their Shoyu and special Robata
sauce (sweet-spicy) are a must to complement the dish!
To support the Izakaya casual dining concept of their restaurant, Senju also provides a range of selections for wines and spirits. They had a huge glass storage filled with wine bottles and I spotted some of amazing labels in the house, especially Penfolds (which is also one of their partners).
I recently came back to Senju Omakase as they recently celebrated their anniversary. In conjunction with their anniversary, they launched some special new entries to their menu and I got the privilege to taste them first before they released it for their guests!
Signature Truffle Uni Wagyu Don
Wagyu Beef Served with Truffle Uni, Caviar and Onsen Egg
This one was a lavish combo of premium ingredients. I instantly had an amazing impression towards the dish because I just love uni (and wagyu) so much! The whole combination was really harmonious in both flavor and texture. No concerns needed towards the ingredients because everything is air-flown from Toyosu Market. Overall flavor was umami and fresh. The runny onsen egg makes the whole thing delicate and the serving portion of uni and wagyu was really generous! I also love the doneness level of the wagyu which gives right decency, however the uni was somehow lacking its strong briny flavor (perhaps because of the truffle oil and wasabi).
Umi Yama Teppanyaki Set
This set menu upholds the concept of when the sea and mountain collide; which is why you are going to find both delicacies from land and sea to savor altogether in this fulfilling set menu. Everything comes fresh from their renowned sizzling teppan straight to the table: the salmon was nice regarding the quality of their air-flown ingredients (fresh from Toyosu), the tiger prawns were really nice (regarding prawn is a challenging one to nicely produce in terms of doneness from teppan) and the squid and scallop were both amazing: very succulent! Along with the set, you also get US Prime Sirloin (a tad dry for my liking, which is why it is best served immediately). Some additionals on the side include steamed rice, salad, miso soup and ice cream!
Senju Tama Tofu with Pitan Eggs Sauce
This was an amazing cold appetizer that shall not be missed! Very silky and delicate, paired with the rich flavor from pitan eggs/thousand-year eggs (chicken/duck eggs preserved in clay, ash, salt, quicklime and rice husks throughout a period of time)!
