KAM'S ROAST - PLAZA INDONESIA

Happy New Year to all of you, my beloved readers! Wishing all of you a wonderful and spectacular year ahead. May all your resolutions and amazing visions be accomplished. May God always bless you and lead you in everything you are going to do and may the chapters to unfold ahead become amazing ones; better than the chapters behind.

Again and again, I apologize for the months of hiatus from writing in my blog. Thank you very much to each and every one of you who still stick around and always supporting me along my journey of pursuing my passion in blogging. I was focusing on my first semester assignments and exams since I just got into university last August. Therefore, I really hope that I can write so much more in 2020 and keep up with the pace!

Before taking a break for Christmas and the New Year, I had a dinner at the newly-opened Kam's Roast in Plaza Indonesia. Welcoming their second outlet after their successful introduction at their Pantai Indah Kapuk outlet. For those of you who are still not aware, Kam's Roast is a renowned restaurant chain from Hong Kong which has been awarded with One Star Michelin at their Wan Chai Outlet. Following their success in Hong Kong, Kam's Roast has opened several outlets overseas. Landing in Indonesia, they have been highly anticipated by the passionate crowd and their tables have been fully occupied in most days.

I had been hearing a lot about Kam's Roast since they first opened in Pantai Indah Kapuk. However, my first experience of actually trying their food was at their second outlet in Plaza Indonesia. Their outlet in Plaza Indonesia is located on Level 3, beside Rococo Store. Regarding space, their Plaza Indonesia outlet is way smaller than their outlet in Pantai Indah Kapuk which resides a whole building. Speaking of ambiance, their Plaza Indonesia outlet utilizes the space in a really effective way. Having an open kitchen display and accommodating quite a limited number of people, along with their Private Dining Room as well. The space for moving was quite tight since the tables are arranged densely and due to the seating limit, they are often having waiting list.

Alright, I am just going to say this straight and honest. My expectations might have been too high, seeing how reputable they have been. Though the overall impression did not meet my expectations, there was nothing actually wrong about their food. It is just that there was nothing too spot-on or anything in my opinion. Nevertheless, I am still going to give you my honest thoughts on the dishes that were served.

Roasted Duck (Half) - 215K
Right at the front of their outlet in Plaza Indonesia, you can see all the meat displayed and I could tell from the looks that they offer nice quality of meat. Their Roasted Duck was nice in terms of the meat and everything, yet back again, nothing too spot-on or anything in comparison to the ones out there. I also find that it was not as juicy and the skin was not at its best (I am an avid lover of duck skin and anything skin!)

Soya Chicken (Half) - 118K
One thing that I found about their dishes is that their seasoning is more to the light side, which gives more highlight to the quality of their ingredients. Their Soya Chicken was not bad for the nice marination. However, it was slightly overcooked for me. Classic soya seasoning definitely does not go wrong for their signature dishes!

Toro Char Siew and Crispy Pork - 239K
Everyone was raving about their pork. They served two kinds of pork in this plate, Toro Char Siew and Crispy Pork. Their Toro Char Siew was better in my opinion. Although not as succulent as how people are applauding their Hong Kong outlet for, yet it was pretty good overall. I was expecting it to be more chewy.  However, I was a little bit disappointed to find that the Crispy Pork was a bit overcooked since I am always down for Crispy Pork above all other ways to serve pork.

Lo Sui Tofu - 38K
There were lots of side dishes to accompany the meal, including vegetables and all sorts of starters. I found their Lo Sui Tofu really delicate! However, back again, needs more seasoning in my opinion.

Jasmine Tea - 20K
If Chinese Tea is usually served in teapots out there, they serve their tea in individual large-sized cups (or personal pot, perhaps?); something quite unique!

I was not really surprised about how the food was not on par with my expectations. We all have to acknowledge the fact that consistency is really challenging in the F&B industry, especially when a restaurant chain has many outlets. One outlet may be truly superb while the others may not be as good as the other one, which is something normal to witness in the industry. Having one outlet awarded with a Michelin Star does not guarantee that all the other outlets are equally impressive.

I have been hearing thoughts that their outlet in Pantai Indah Kapuk is overall better. Therefore, I may be giving them another chance in the future since I have previously mentioned that there were no major flaws or anything too fatal.

Wishing all the very best for Kam's Roast Indonesia!
